Betty Jean (Muir) Thompson

(age 95) of Springfield, VA, departed this life Tuesday, January 26th, 2021. Born July 7th, 1925, in Inkster, ND, she was a graduate of (then) Jamestown College (’47) and (then) Western Reserve School of Nursing (’50). Betty served as a public health nurse in Washington, DC and later for 23 years in Arlington, VA while rearing six children. She was an active member of the Church of the Savior in Washington, DC, Clarendon U.M.C, in Arlington, VA, and National Presbyterian Church in Washington, DC, where she served as deacon. She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Kingsley Prentiss Thompson, of 63 years. She is survived by her six children Lydia Ann Rice of Rockville, MD; David Muir Thompson (Julia) of Crozet, VA; Peter Murray Thompson (Geraldine Schultz) of Glendale, CA; Timothy Guy Thompson (Susan) of Charlotte, NC; Martha Prentiss Thompson of Arlington, VA; and Priscilla Jean Mika (Timothy) of Houston, TX; fourteen grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents Guy Fair Muir and Harriet Ann (Murray) Muir; and son-in-law Donald R. Rice, grandson Douglas Paul Mika, and great-grandson Jacob Kingsley Savage.
