Lorraine "Rainy" Bakken

Lorraine "Rainy" Bakken, 95, of East Grand Forks, MN, died Friday, March 1, 2019, at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.

"Rainy" was born September 10, 1923, in Oakland, CA, the daughter of Ashley and Pearl (Waterman) Boyd. She attended school in California and worked for the Navy during WW II for Kaiser Shipyard building Liberty Ships. She married Ervan Bakken on March 29, 1944, in California and then moved to Minneapolis, MN, to work in a defense plant until Ervan returned from the war. Upon Ervan's return and resumption of his railroad career, they moved to Crookston and then East Grand Forks, MN, until his passing in 1995 and the flood of 1997 took their home. "Rainy" volunteered for the East Grand Forks school system for 30 years and remains a fond memory to many 7th graders who attended the Wolf Ridge Interpretive Center. She was a longtime member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and sang in the choir until the age of 88. She enjoyed volunteering and singing at the senior center and area nursing homes for many years.

"Rainy" is survived by her children Kathy Walker of Palm Desert, CA, Steve (Wendy) Bakken of Bismarck, ND, 2 grandchildren; Carrie Lynn (Paul) Stull of Wasilla, AK, Allison (Millie) Warner of Palm Desert, CA, 2 great grandchildren; Joey Stull of Wasilla, AK and Ashlyn (Jareth) Britt of Wasilla, AK and 1 great, great grandchild; Tucker Britt. She is preceded in death by her husband; Ervan Bakken, parents; Pearl and Ashley Boyd, sisters; Hazel Rothstein and Evie DeRusha and brother; Howard DeRusha.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Bakken Scholarship, Our Savior's Lutheran Church, East Grand Forks, MN.

Memorial Service: 10:30 AM, ~ Friday, March 29, 2019 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, East Grand Forks, MN.

Visitation: One Hour Before Service

Inurnment: Oakdale Cemetery, Crookston, MN ~ Spring 2019
