Lucas F. "Luke" Lutovsky

Lucas F. Lutovsky (Luke), 84, passed away Friday, February 8, 2019 at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND. He was surrounded by his family.

Luke was born on November 22, 1934 in Grafton, ND to A.J. (Tony) and Lillian (Peterka) Lutovsky of Voss, ND. He attended school in Voss for his first 8 years, and then graduated from Minto High School in 1952. He was a proud member of the 1951-1952 State Championship Baseball teams.

On November 22, 1955, his 21st birthday, he was united in marriage to Joyce Barta (W.A. and Irene). They raised 5 children and lived in Voss their entire time together. They celebrated 61 years of marriage until her death in 2016.

Luke's dream was to join the military, but when his father, A.J., was injured, he stayed home to work with him at the Voss Grain Company. Together with his brother, Leonard, they operated the business until the deaths of both Leonard and A.J. In 1980, Luke and his son, Scott, became owners/operators of one of the few remaining privately-owned grain elevators in the state. Luke continued to work there until his death.

Luke was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Minto, ND, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and Church Trustee. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Bishop O'Reilly Council 3918. He was a member of the Walsh Centre Township Board for many years, serving as their secretary/treasurer, retiring his position in 2015. He was also a past member of the Minto School Board. Luke was an avid reader, with military history being his favorite subject. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, Fox News, true crime mysteries, NCIS and The Lawrence Welk Show. Among his greatest accomplishments was sending his children to college and passing on his strong Catholic faith to them.

He is survived by five children: Kimball (Julie) Lutovsky, Grafton; Rebecca (Terry) Cote, Fargo; Scott (Peggy) Lutovsky, Voss; Dawn (John) Miller, Minto; and Darren (Kendra) Lutovsky, Port Orchard, WA.; his brother, Ray Lutovsky, Chelsea, MI; 17 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Rascal. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Joyce, brothers Marcel and Leonard Lutovsky and sister Judy Reeves.
