Raymond James Hilman
Mass of Christian Burial for Raymond J. Hilman, 76, of Northrop, MN, will be 10:30 am on Monday, December 10, 2018, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. Interment will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Fairmont. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Raymond passed away on Thursday evening, December 6, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato, MN. The Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Raymond James Hilman was born on April 3, 1942, in Lakota, ND. He was the son of Raymond and Lucille (Tibbitts) Hilman. Raymond graduated from Ray High School in Ray, ND in 1960 and continued his education at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. He graduated with a major in music and a minor in Math.
On March 29, 1985, Raymond was united in marriage to Eileen Duffey at St. Martins Episcopal Church in Fairmont, MN. The couple made their home in Arlington, MN, until moving to Northrop, MN, in 1997. Raymond began his career working as a music teacher in Fordville, ND, and Steele, ND, as well as Hancock, MN. He then worked as the long-time music teacher in Arlington, MN, where he worked until his retirement in 1999.
During his free time, Raymond enjoyed playing cards, fishing, and played golf in his younger years. He most loved music and shared his love of music by playing in the Fairmont City Band as well as singing with the church choir at St. John Vianney. He was also a cantor at church years ago.
Left to cherish his memory include his brother, Richard Hilman and his wife, Susan, of Lancaster, MN; sister, Mary Hilman of Mt. Prospect, IL; niece, Heidi Johnson and her husband, Michael, of Hallock, MN; nephew, Jim Hilman and his wife, Shari, of Lancaster, MN; other relatives and friends. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Lucille Hilman.
