Dr. Gary L. Lindemoen

Gary L. Lindemoen, 82, Fargo passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2018.

Gary as born March 12, 1936 in Stephen, MN to Albert and Irene (Frederick) Lindemoen. He graduated from Crookston High School 1954. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving stateside during the Korean War in 1955. He married Rita Sullivan on March 4th, 1955. He graduated from the University of North Dakota with a degree in Biology in 1962 before graduating from Marquette University with his Doctorate in Dental Surgery in 1967. He did his residency and internship at Millard Filmore Hospital in Buffalo, New York 1967 until 1970 where he received his Doctorate in Oral Maxillofacial Surgery. He returned to Fargo in 1970 where he began his practice and raised his 3 children; Vicky, Susan and Todd.

He was the Department Head of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery at Fargo Clinic until opening his own private practice in 1988, O.M.S. Associates Inc.

Gary married Jill Geraghty on February 3, 1985 in St. Thomas at Frederik Lutheran Church. Together they raised 3 daughters; Brenna, Alexa and Marissa.

He was the President of The American College of Oral Maxiollofacial Surgeons, Diplomat of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, member of The International Congress of Oral Plastic Surgery along with the American Association of Oral Maxillofacial Surgeons.

Gary was a strong advocate for his profession. He won a Supreme Court decision that paved the way to allow other Oral Maxillofacial Surgeons to practice facial surgery across the country. In 1994 he developed and directed The Heartland Study Club; a fellowship of dentists and dental professionals committed to bringing advanced dental education and fellowship to our community.

Gary loved his profession and his work; it was a part of his identity. He continued working into his 80's. His love for helping others made it difficult to retire.

Gary loved life and his time with family and close friends. He had, however, developed degenerative brain disease which was causing him difficulty with the things he loved.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Jill, Fargo; mother, Irene Lindemoen, Grand Forks, ND; children, Vicky (Mark) Fjelde, Indianapolis, IN, Susan Lindemoen, Columbia, SC, Todd (Melissa) Lindemoen, Fargo, ND, Brenna (Carter) Lindemoen-Wynn, Fargo, ND, Alexa (Mike) Patti, Portland, OR, Marissa (Matthew Frederick) Lindemoen, Fargo, ND; 11 grandchildren, Lyla, Penelope, Theodore, Harrison, Neal, Lili, Jake, Nicole, Andrea, Amy, Anna; 4 siblings, Judy Behm, Grand Forks, ND, Dennis (Karen) Lindemoen, Bloomington, MN, Avis (Bill) Reynolds, Grand Forks, ND, Terry Lindemoen, Fargo, ND and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Al, father and mother-in-law, Darrell and Ruth Geraghty.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Lend A Hand with Dakota Medical Foundation.

Celebration of Gary's Life: 3:00 P.M. Sunday, December 9, 2018 at Hope Lutheran Church, South Campus with visitation starting at 2:00 P.M.
