Lawrence "Larry" Griggs

Lawrence "Larry" Griggs, age 86, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2018 at his home in Grand Forks, ND. He was surrounded by the warmth of his family and his beautiful wife who cared for him so lovingly until God had called him home.

Larry Victor Griggs was born along with his identical twin brother, Lewis on June 5, 1932 the son of Max and Florence (Haggerty) Griggs at St. Michael's Hospital in Grand Forks. Larry was raised near Reynolds, ND, where his family farmed. He attended rural school until graduating from the 8th grade. On March 2, 1957, Larry married his soul-mate, Ellen Carlson at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Grand Forks and together they spent the next 61 years loving each other, building a life together and raising a family. Throughout his life, Larry worked as a mechanic for several local businesses. After spending over 25 years working for Ryan Potato Company, he retired in 2007.

Larry loved to spend time with his grandkids, looking for antiques, visiting flea markets and refinishing, remodeling or rebuilding just about anything. He was extremely creative and his problem solving ability and ingenuity will be greatly missed.

Larry is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ellen; his daughters, Dianna McAuliffe, Debra (Mike) Johnson, and Donna (Todd) Lein; his sons, Daniel Griggs, Dale (Tammy) Griggs, Darrin Griggs, Darrel (Janelle) Griggs; 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; sisters, Maxine Erickstad and Patricia Griggs.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his twin brother, Lewis Griggs and his sister, Rosemary Wold.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 10, 2018 in St. Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.

Visitation: 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday with an 8:00 p.m. vigil service in the Historic Norman Funeral Home Chapel. Please, use the entrance on the north side of the funeral home parking lot during Sunday's visitation. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Monday.

Interment: Calvary Cemetery, Reynolds, ND, in the spring.
