Marilyn Thomas, 70 of Grand Forks, ND passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at her home in Grand Forks.
Marilyn was born October 24, 1947 in Minot, ND the daughter of Raymond and Catherine (Leier) Walter. She was raised on the family farm near Karlsruhe ND and attended Verendrye Public school and later Karlsruhe Public school. Marilyn married Philip Thomas on October 10, 1964 at St. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church in Karlsruhe, ND. Following their marriage, they lived in several communities in Minnesota and North Dakota until moving to Grand Forks in 1971.
Family was top priority and Marilyn chose to stay home to teach her children importance of faith, strong work ethics, lots of holiday baking, and crafts. As the children grew, she started working outside the home and was employed with Young Drug, Food Bonanza grocery store, Point Ceramics and came to own Rainbow Ceramics in the basement of her home teaching others. When Rainbow Ceramics closed, she worked at Sam's club when they opened in 1992 until the passing of her husband in 2012. Marilyn was an active member of Holy Family in many facets including teaching confirmation, Sunday school teacher, Eucharistic minister and helping with altar society.
She is survived by her children, Sheila Thomas, Fargo, ND, Shannon (Phil) Douglas, Kissimmee, FL, Tracie (Doug) Fegley, Stewart, MN, and Troy (Melanie) Thomas, Cypress, TX; grandchildren, Ashley Douglas, Joshua Douglas, Jessica Fegley, Daria Fegley, Troy Thomas Jr. and Kaitylnn Thomas; her father, Raymond Walter; siblings, Allen Walter, Grand Forks, ND, Ardis (Dwight) Reichenberger, Sun City West AZ, Wayne (Verla) Walter, Burlington, ND, Leann (Ron) Kraft, Norwich, ND, Diane (Don) Miller, Minot, ND, Delvin (Char) Walter, Minot, ND, Neal (Judy) Walter, Minot, ND, Don (Dixie) Walter, Velva, ND, Joel (Rhonda) Walter, Minot ND, Ken (Vonda) Walter, Bismarck, ND, Cathy (Patrick) Schatz, Bismarck, ND and an abundance of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Phil and mother, Catherine.
Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 Saturday, August 18, 2018 in Holy Family Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.
Visitation: 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday with a 4:30 p.m. rosary service and 7:00 p.m. vigil service in the Historic Norman Funeral Chapel, Grand Forks, ND.
