Barbara "Barb" Polovitz

October 6, 1927 - August 8, 2018

Barbara Ann Polovitz, 90, died August 8, 2018 of natural causes. In her own words, the first thing she was going to ask God was, "Why did you make mosquitos?"

She was born in Detroit, Michigan to Bernard and Norma Boggio. They moved to Ft. Lauderdale when she was 10 years old. She graduated from the University of Michigan with her B.S. in nursing and the next day married Michael Polovitz at University Chapel in Ann Arbor, Michigan on June 11, 1949.

Barb was a night shift labor and delivery nurse in Grand Forks, volunteered for years at the Blood Bank and an active member of University Lutheran Church. Her last few years of life with Alzheimer's were spent under the wonderful care of MapleView Memory Care in Grand Forks.

Barb is remembered by her children with these words and memories:

Fiercely independent lady...way before her time. Bridge, bridge, and more bridge. The lake. Birds. Gardening. Voracious Sioux hockey fan. Blood bank volunteer. Church. Labor and delivery nurse. Walks. Garage sales. Raspberry jelly. Corn on the cob. Green bean soup. Cribbage. Reading. MASH. Coffee. McIntosh donuts. 9th Ave north. Neighborhood coffee hour.

Barb is survived by her children Tom (Mary), Ken (Becky), Norma (Ross), Dave (Bernie), 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 13 at University Lutheran Church, 2122 University Ave., Grand Forks. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Valley Memorial Foundation Amundson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Online guestbook is available at
