To get an event in the Outdoors calendar, contact Brad Dokken at (701) 780-1148, (800) 477-6572 ext. 1148 or by email at bdokken@gfherald.com. Deadline is 5 p.m. Wednesdays.

Events

Park vehicle passes are required for all events at North Dakota and Minnesota state parks. Info: parkrec.nd.gov or mndnr.gov.

  • Feb. 27: Candlelight Ski and Owl Prowl, 6 to 9:30 p.m., Rydell National Wildlife Refuge, 17788 349th St. SE, Erskine, MN. All five trails will be open for cross-country skiing or snowshoeing, and the Church Lake, Rice Lake and Round Lake trails will be groomed and lit. Two owl calling stations will be set up, where the calls of several owl species will be projected into the woods to try and generate a response. The refuge Visitor Center will be closed because of the ongoing pandemic, snacks and beverages will not be available and participants will have to bring their own equipment. Visitors also should bring masks, which are required on all national wildlife refuges when social distancing is not possible. Hosted by the Friends of Rydell and Glacial Ridge Refuges Association. Info: Gregg Knutsen, refuge manager, (218) 686-4329 or greg_knutsen@fws.gov.
