Xcel customers in Buxton, Reynolds and Thompson, N.D., were without power for about one hour this morning according to Bonnie Lund a senior communications representative for Xcel Energy.
A switch on a transmission line near Hillsboro, N.D. malfunctioned just after 6 a.m. causing the outage Lund said.
Although Hillsboro residents are not Xcel customers the city lost power due to the malfunction.
Residents were without power for about one hour this morning according to City Auditor Lesley Connelly.

"Our city generators were fired up within a half hour," Connelly said. An Xcel transmission line switch apparently burnt out according to Connelly.
The outage occurred at about 6:20 a.m., according to the Traill County Sheriff's Department. Xcel restored power within about an hour.
"Two-thirds of the town was operating on our generators," Connelly said. "If the outage would have gone on any longer we would have started alternating the power supply."
