Deputy Chris Dewey, shot in the line of duty while responding to a call last year in Mahnomen, Minn., has returned home.
"Tonight we finally met our goal of bringing Chris home," reads a CaringBridge journal posted by his wife, Emily, early this morning. "With the help of hospice we will be able to care for Chris in the environment he deserves to be in ... home."
Emily Dewey's journal entry, posted at 12:01 a.m., said "it is time to allow him the privilege of meeting our Lord."
Dewey is now at her parents' home in Princeton.
The deputy was placed under hospice care Thursday morning after his lung collapsed and began putting pressure on his heart, his uncle, Eric Dewey said.

He had been living in an assisted living facility in Cambridge, Minn., and underwent extensive rehabilitation care.
Dewey was shot once in the head and twice in the stomach in February 2009 while responding with his partner to reports of a drunken driver and shots fired in Mahnomen.
Thomas Lee Fairbanks faces numerous charges in the crime, including attempted murder. A Sept. 20 trial is planned in Crookston, Minn.
Daniel Kurt Vernier was sentenced to two years in prison for his role as an accomplice in the shooting.
