A 28-year-old Michigan, N.D., woman was injured after she lost control of her vehicle and wrapped it around a tree just south of the Columbia overpass early today.

Maria Nenow, 28, was driving southbound at about 9 a.m. today on Columbia Road in her 2003 Chevrolet Trail Blazer when the vehicle hit an icy patch on the south end of the overpass. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree on the west side of Columbia, about a block north of Altru Hospital.

Nenow, who was alone in the vehicle, was trapped inside with the tree blocking the driver's side door.

She was removed after Grand Forks firefighters cut away the vehicle's doors and roof. She was taken by ambulance to Altru Hospital, she was admitted in serious condition and has been upgraded to satisfactory. She is now out of the intensive care unit, according to a nursing supervisor.

Grand Forks police continue to investigate the accident.
