A 25-year-old woman was arrested Thursday in the shooting death of her common-law husband Tuesday in Shooks Township in Beltrami County.

At 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, the Beltrami Co. Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call and found Matthew David Albert, 27, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. The 911 call was made by Betsy Marie Hanks, Albert's common-law wife, authorities said Thursday.

Albert was transported to North Memorial Air Ambulane for transport to North Memorial Hospital in Minneapolis. Albert never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead Thursday. His body was transported to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's officer for an autopsy.

A .22 gun was missing from the residence. On Thursday afternoon, Hanks was taken into custody by county investigators and agents from the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. The missing handgun was recovered by officers in Mizpah, Minn., who were led to the gun by Hanks.

Hanks is in custody at the Beltrami County Jail in Bemidji, and authorities said reports will be forwarded to the county attorney for possible murder charges.
