Bison Transport, a Winnipeg-based company, said Tuesday that it's buying Britton Transport, a Grand Forks-based trucking company.
"The acquisition of Britton is an important first step in Bison Transport's U.S. expansion strategy," CEO Don Streuber said. "Britton is a well run operation and has been a strong U.S. partner carrier of ours over the last five years, handling a growing portion of our U.S. freight. This transaction will provide Bison Transport a U.S. base of operations in close proximity to one of our key border crossing in the north-central U.S."
Dave Britton started the company that bears his name in 1980 from a small transportation brokerage to one that hauls the goods itself with 65 workers and 45 tractors.
The deal is expected to close in May, Bison Transport said. It did not disclose the value of the deal.
Bison said it operates 1,050 tractors and 3,000 trailers, hauling goods throughout Canada and 48 U.S. states.
