William "Willie" Good, 83, died Monday, November 27, 2006 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.
William "Willie' Good was born November 12, 1923 in Neptune, MN, the son of Wayne and Hilma (Mostrom) Good. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith and attended school in Little Oak, Red Lake and Pipestone, MN. Willie and his younger brother, Joe, enlisted in the United States Army in 1944 and both were stationed in Camp Wheeler, GA. Willie served his country as a combat infantryman, earning a Purple Heart when he lost his right leg to an artillery shell on March 25, 1945. He later spent 8 months in the hospital recovering from his combat wounds. Willie served in the European Theater in 1945 with General Patton's 3rd Army and was Honorably Discharge on December 22, 1945. Willie was united in marriage to Mary Jane Hanson, November 3, 1953 in Grygla, MN. The couple made their home on the Red Lake Reservation and Clearwater County, rural Trail, MN and farmed small grain and hay. He was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church, Trail, MN, the Trail V.F.W., Gully American Legion and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans in Bemidji, MN. He enjoyed auction sales, going to the casino, spending holidays with family and friends and deer hunting in his younger years. Willie is survived by two brothers: Bert Good, Trail, MN and Archie Wilson, Blythe, CA; two sisters: Helen Brozio, New Port Richey, FL and Ella Englund, Thief River Falls, MN; special aunt and uncle, Ernest and Lorraine Mostrom, Trail, MN; special aunt, Clara Peterson, Trail, MN; and special friend, Richard Barrett, Red Lake, MN; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Special thanks to Cathy Good and Kelly Dahlen for the help given Willie over the years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane, May 17, 2000; his parents; brothers, Joseph Good and James Good; and sisters, Bertha Good and Myrtle Good. Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, December 2, 2006 at Nazareth Lutheran Church, rural Trail, MN with Reverend Joseph Abrahamson officiating. Burial will be in Nazareth Cemetery, Trail, MN. Visitation will be 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, December 1, 2006 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN and also at the church for one hour prior to the service, Saturday.
