Mike Hergert of Grand Forks crossed the half marathon hand-in-hand with his daughter, Sarah Wocken, and he proudly proclaimed that it was a personal record (PR) for his daughter.
"My PR days are over,'' Hergert said. "It's a lot more fun for me to run with her when she's getting PRs.''
Wocken admitted that even her best wasn't up to dad's standards.
"I was holding him back,'' Wocken said. "He told me it was a nice, comfortable pace. It was faster than I'm used to running.''
Cramps occupy medical station
Medical officials at the finish line Saturday said they treated multiple racers with cramps.
But with the race winding down, trainers said they didn't see injuries more serious than that.
Wide-spread interest in race

As of early last week, the weekend of Wild Hog racing activities had drawn entrants from 28 states and four Canadian provinces.
Rachel Hellyer, a member of the Wild Hog race committee, said that was close to a year ago when the initial Wild Hog event was held.
"Last year, it probably surprised us a little more, being that it was our first year,'' Hellyer said of the wide-spread interest the race attracted.
"But I'm a runner. I travel all over the country to run. I think a lot of runners do. And a lot of (the runners) may have ties to this area, from growing up here, through UND and relatives in the area. It's a good reason to come back.''
