WEST FARGO - Police here have arrested a man following a Monday night chase in a stolen car that reached speeds up to 80 mph, said Assistant West Fargo Police Chief Mike Reitan.

John Terrance Daye, 25, of West Fargo, was booked into the Cass County Jail on charges of fleeing in a vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle, reckless endangerment, driving under suspension and fleeing on foot.

Reitan said the owner of the stolen car spotted Daye driving the car about 11 p.m. Monday and called 911. West Fargo police caught up with Daye, and he sped away from them in the 1100 block of 17th Street East, the assistant chief said.

The pursuit lasted a couple of miles before Daye lost control of the car and hit a snowbank in the 1100 block of 45th Street North. He ran from the car into a field, but police captured him, Reitan said. No injuries were reported.

While searching Daye, officers found a steak knife and a small amount of white powder. Police are testing the powder to determine if it's an illegal drug, Reitan said.
