The National Weather Service has canceled the tornado warning for east-central Polk and south-central Red Lake counties early because the storm no longer is severe, the weather service says.
The storm has weakened below severe limits and "no longer poses an immediate threat to life or property," the weather service said in a statement.
The National Weather Service earkier in the hour had issued a tornado warning for east-central Polk and south-central Red Lake counties in northwest Minnesota until 5:45 p.m.
At 5:11 p.m., weather spotters reported a funnel cloud 3 miles northeast of Mentor, or 27 miles south of Thief River Falls. Radar showed the storm moving east at 20 mph, with the possibility of a tornado developing at any time.
Earlier, spotters reported two funnels north and west of Mentor at 4:49 p.m., the weather service said.
