WEATHER: Freezing drizzle, sleet possible later today over portions of region

Some freezing drizzle or sleet is possible this afternoon and tonight over portions of the northern Red River region, and that could make for some slippery roads.

Some freezing drizzle or sleet is possible this afternoon and tonight over portions of the northern Red River region, and that could make for some slippery roads.

The line of sleet or freezing drizzle is expected roughly north of a line from Bemidji west to Grafton, N.D., to Cando, N.D., the National Weather Service says.

The freezing precipitation might be mixed with snow and will change over to snow after midnight, the weather service says.

Over the far northern portions of northwest Minnesota's Lake of the Woods County, as much as 4 inches of snow is possible tonight and Tuesday, the weather service says.

The National Weather Service extended forecast for Grand Forks:

Today: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 33. South wind around 7 mph.

Tonight: A 40 percent chance of snow after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28. South wind 6 to 9 mph becoming west northwest. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Tuesday: A 20 percent chance of snow before noon. Cloudy, with a steady temperature around 31. West northwest wind between 7 and 10 mph.

Tuesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 14. West wind between 5 and 8 mph.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 33. Southwest wind around 7 mph.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 20.

Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 29.

Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 16.
