Expect northwest winds to increase to 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 40 mph at times from midday through late afternoon, the National Weather Service office in Grand Forks says in its wind advisory.

The northern Red River Valley region and west-central Minnesota are expected to feel the brunt of the winds.

The wind advisory remains in effect until 7 tonight.

The winds will generate waves of up to five feet in the Devils Lake basin and could result in roadbed erosion in susceptible areas, according to the weather service.
