WEATHER: B-b-biting cold December weekend ahead

Ready for nighttime lows in the teens below zero? Hope so. The National Weather Service says an arctic cold front arriving this weekend will send overnight temperatures within several degrees of 20 below zero -- and Sunday's high around 5 below zero.

The National Weather Service says an arctic cold front arriving this weekend will send overnight temperatures within several degrees of 20 below zero -- and Sunday's high around 5 below zero.

The National Weather Service forecast for Grand Forks:

Today: Occasional flurries before noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 11. Northeast wind at 9 mph becoming south southeast.

Tonight: A 50 percent chance of snow after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a temperature rising to around 17 by 4am. Breezy, with a south wind 10 to 13 mph increasing to between 18 and 21 mph. Winds could gust as high as 29 mph. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Thursday: A 50 percent chance of snow. Cloudy, with a high near 25. Breezy, with a south wind 14 to 20 mph becoming west northwest. Winds could gust as high as 28 mph. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Thursday Night: Cloudy, with a low around 5. Northwest wind between 10 and 18 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Friday: A 20 percent chance of snow after noon. Cloudy, with a high near 9. Northwest wind between 9 and 11 mph.

Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around -4.

Saturday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 5.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around -16.

Sunday: Mostly sunny and cold, with a high near -5.

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around -17.
