A winter storm warning in effect tonight until either 9 p.m. or midnight for eastern Polk County and Clearwater, Beltrami, Mahnomen and Norman counties - as well the Fargo-Moorhead area stretching southwest all the way to the Ashley, N.D., region.
Grand Forks and East Grand Forks are not in the winter storm warning area.
The winter weather advisory for that area was upgraded late this morning to a winter storm warning.
Winds will be north from 5 to 10 mph in the northern side of the winter storm warning, but 10 to 20 mph by this afternoon in the Red River Valley and to the southeast, the National Weather Service office in Grand Forks says.
A winter storm warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring that, with heavy snow, will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency, and if you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
