Water meeting set for Monday in D.C.

North Dakota Sen. Byron Dorgan and Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger said Friday that a second round of four-party water policy talks between U.S. and Canadian officials is set for Monday in Washington.

North Dakota Sen. Byron Dorgan and Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger said Friday that a second round of four-party water policy talks between U.S. and Canadian officials is set for Monday in Washington.

The meeting will serve as a follow-up to an October meeting.

Expected participants will include Dorgan, Selinger, Canadian Ambassador to the U.S. Gary Doer, U.S. Ambassador to Canada David Jacobson, North Dakota Gov. John Hoeven, Sen. Kent Conrad and Rep. Earl Pomeroy. The talks will be at the Canadian Embassy.

Work has focused on the quantity and quality of water removed from Devils Lake, the Northwest Area Water Supply project, basinwide nutrient management and finding ways to reduce flooding along the border between Manitoba and Pembina County.
