A Washington Post blog has recognized state Rep. Kylie Oversen, D-Grand Forks, as a young political figure worth keeping an eye on.

Oversen, 25, was included in The Fix blog’s “40 Under 40” list Tuesday. She was first elected to the North Dakota Legislature in 2012.

“This list focuses on people who have made names for themselves outside of Washington, D.C. - state-level politicians, mayors, local officials and operatives - but could soon be known to all of us,” the Post’s Aaron Blake wrote.

Blake wrote that Oversen, a former UND student body president, has taken “some firm stances” during her young career, “including pushing for a bill banning discrimination against the LGBT community and railing against the state’s restrictive anti-abortion law.” She was the youngest female state legislator in the country when she took office in 2013.

Oversen represents District 42, which includes a large part of the UND community. She is a member of the Government Finance and Higher Education Funding committees during the interim legislative session.
