A Warwick, N.D., man who stabbed another man in the shoulder over a $5 debt has been sentenced to seven years in prison and three years of supervised release, the U.S. attorney's office said.

Earland Rebel McKay, 31, pleaded guilty in June to the stabbing.

Authorities said McKay asked his cousin, Matthew Ironshield, to pay him back in March, and when Ironshield said he did not have the money, McKay held a folding knife to Ironshield's throat and then stabbed him in the shoulder.

The sentence McKay received Monday also included punishment for a December 2009 assault on a man named, Tylin Slaughter Jr.

During a house party, McKay punched Slaughter, knocked him to the ground and stomped on his face and neck while wearing football spikes, authorities said.
