A balmy day in the Red River Valley led to the fall of several high temperature records Thursday.
Grand Forks broke daily high temperature records at two locations.
The National Weather Service office near the UND campus and Grand Forks International Airport both recorded a high of 46 degrees -- breaking the old record of 42 set in 1984 at both locations.
Thermometers in Fargo reached 54 degrees, shattering the old record of 40 set in 1984. The city also tied its record for the highest temperature recorded in January which was set on Jan. 20, 1908.
Average high temperatures for the Red River Valley are usually around 15 degrees at this time in January, according to the weather service.
