Wanzek Construction of Fargo sold to Florida company

FARGO - Fargo-based Wanzek Construction Inc., a heavy-industrial construction company launched in 1971, has been sold to MasTec Inc. of Coral Gables, Fla.

FARGO - Fargo-based Wanzek Construction Inc., a heavy-industrial construction company launched in 1971, has been sold to MasTec Inc. of Coral Gables, Fla.

The $200 million purchase was announced today under an agreement whereby MasTec will also assume $15 million in debt.

Wanzek employs 1,100 workers throughout the U.S., said company President Jon Wanzek, who will continue as president of the division.

Wanzek Construction is involved in wind tower erection and industrial construction of natural gas processing plants and biofuel plants.

"With the acquisition of Wanzek, we are expanding our expertise in the wind energy and gas industries," said Jose Mas, president and chief executive officer of MasTec.

Wanzek Construction was founded in 1971 by Leo and Janet Wanzek.

Over the years the company has been involved in bridge, flood control, ethanol plant and general construction.
