Haley Wamstad and Andy Schneider were sworn in to their roles as Grand Forks County state's attorney and sheriff, respectively.

District Judge Don Hager swore Wamstad and Schneider into office at the Grand Forks County Commission meeting on Jan. 2.

"Welcome aboard, Ms. Wamstad and Mr. Schneider. We are glad to have you," said board Chairman David Engen.

The commissioners voted to not accept checks for sitting on external boards they are appointed to.

"I feel uncomfortable taking them," said Commissioner Diane Knauf. "It's double-dipping."

Commissioner Tom Falck brought the issue to the board's attention after receiving an extra $50 in his paycheck from the county for sitting on the Metropolitan Planning Organization board.
