CROOKSTON -- East Grand Forks Senior High is one win away from its first berth in the Minnesota state volleyball tournament.
The Green Wave downed Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton 23-25, 25-21, 25-12, 25-21 here Tuesday in the North Subsection 8AA championship to advance into Saturday's 8 p.m. Section 8AA championship match. Senior High will meet Wadena-Deer Creek at Hawley.
It will be the Wave's first appearance in a section championship match since 1986. "This is huge for our program,'' Senior High coach Paula Hedlund said. "This is what these girls have been working for since they started playing competitive volleyball seven years ago.''

Kate Warmack had 17 kills to lead the offense for the Wave, with Chelsey Frydenlund and Steph Berger adding 10 apiece. Ashley Mertens had 30 assists for the Wave.
Morgan Matheson paced D-G-F with 15 kills.
"Kate dominated,'' Hedlund said. "We went to her more because of her height advantage. But we had good balance, too. After the first game, we really controlled the match.''
That was in part due to a defense led by Betsy Smith (19 digs) and Alison Amundson (18 digs). "Our back-row diggers really did a good job,'' Hedlund said. "We had five girls in double figures in digs. They were all over the court.''
Senior High takes a 22-8 record into the section final.
