Jazz, tap, ballet and hip hop dancing took over the Chester Fritz Auditorium stage Friday during Dance Etc.'s annual spring recital.

Dozens of dancers in elaborate costumes showed off their best moves, the final result of several months of practice, Director Hovi Straus said. Dancers as young as 18 months old showed their talents off to the audience.

This year, the company is holding a special dance for high school students and their parents, Straus said. Girls will dance with their fathers or a male family member, and vice versa for the male dancers.

"It's kind of a special time for parents and students to be onstage," she said. "After all of the years watching and supporting them in the audience, parents can see what it's actually like to dance in (their children's) shoes."

Dancers from Dance Etc. have gone on to train at larger dance companies, such as the prestigious Joffrey Ballet School in New York, Staus said. School representatives have visited Grand Forks to offer master classes and hold auditions, when they try to find potential candidates for summer programs or full-time trainees, she said.

Eleven Dance Etc. dancers have been accepted into the program full time, she said.
