BISMARCK -- A failed valve caused a tank to spill 830 barrels of saltwater near Ross in western North Dakota.

Statoil Oil & Gas LP reported the incident about 6 miles southwest of Ross in Mountrail County on Wednesday, according to the North Dakota Oil and Gas Division.

The release was contained and recovered at the oil and gas well.

A state inspector has been to the site.
