BEULAH, N.D. -- A synthetic natural gas producer plans to produce urea at its facility.
Dakota Gasification Co. approved the $402 million project at Great Plains Synfuels Plant north of Beulah on Monday, according to a news release.
Urea, which is a granular fertilizer used in agricultural applications, is the 10th product the facility will produce.
The company will store about 53,000 tons of urea, according to the release. The project will also include a loadout facility with the ability to load up to 110 railcars. The project is slated for completion in 2017 and will produce 1,100 tons daily.

The urea plant will also produce diesel emission fluid to be stored in a 1.1-million gallon tank.
DGC is a subsidiary of Basin Electric Power Cooperative based in Bismarck.
