FARGO – Longtime forecaster and KFGO weather reporter Terry Spies, 70, died Monday night after suffering a heart attack.
A Hope, N.D., native, Spies joined KFGO 790 AM in 1997 after a long career with the National Weather Service.
“Spies held all of our hands and guided us through many storms over the years, including snowstorms and devastating floods,” KFGO wrote on its website Tuesday morning , calling Spies a "beloved member of our family."
Spies' weather career began when he worked as a forecaster with the United States Navy, said his wife, Doris Spies. He spent much of his time stationed in Alaska, including the Aleutian Islands and extreme northern parts of the state.
The experience gave him a deep love for weather that led him to keep pursuing it as a career. He was hired on with the National Weather Service in Bismarck in 1973.

"He loved the sky, he loved the clouds," Doris said. "There are more cloud pictures in our house than you can imagine."
Doris added that she wants people to remember Terry for his love for people and his sense of humor.
