Musician and composer Michael Wittgraf, Grand Forks, was one of two North Dakotans to be awarded a $2,500 individual artist fellowship from the North Dakota Council on the Arts.
Wittgraf, professor of music at UND and chairman of the music department, plans to use the money to purchase equipment related to KYMA software for a home studio, a news release from NDCA said.
Wittgraf plans to use the KYMA software and its accompanying computer hardware to compose an interactive musical work for chamber ensemble and computer beginning in September, to be completed by May 2011.
The other grant winner, Caroline Downs, Bowbells, N.D., plans to use her money to attend a weeklong children's book writing workshop in July in Oceanside, Ore.
Both grant winners were recommended by a review panel and their selections were approved by the NDCA Board of Directors.
