The UND women's hockey team has started Western Collegiate Hockey Association play on the right foot.
Marie Poirier scored her first goal of the season midway through the third period to lead UND to a 2-1 win over St. Cloud State on Friday at Ralph Engelstad Arena.
Alyssa Wiebe assisted on the game-winning goal.
UND, which split a series with Maine last weekend, improved to 2-1-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the WCHA, while the Huskies dropped to 2-1-0 and 0-1-0.
After trailing 1-0 most of the first two periods, UND's Randi Motsko evened the score at 1 with her third goal of the year just 25 seconds before the second intermission. Melissa Jaques assisted on the play.

UND's defense, anchored by goalie Brittany Kirkham, held St. Cloud State scoreless in 10 tries in the third period.
The Huskies outshot UND 33-20.
St. Cloud State took a 1-0 at 11:45 of the first period. Junior Felicia Nelson scored her fourth goal of the season with an assist from Caitlin Hogan.
St. Cloud State, which swept Quinnipiac last weekend, finished fourth in the WCHA last season.
The teams play again at 4:07 p.m. today.
