UND tops Maine

ORONO, Maine -- The goals finally went in for the UND women's hockey team.

A day after losing by one goal to Maine in a game in which the Sioux had a 48-18 edge in shots on goal, UND rolled to a 7-3 victory against the Black Bears on Saturday.

Melissa Jaques had one goal and three assists for the Sioux, who improved to 1-1. UND also received a goal and two assists from Sara Dagenais and two goals from Randi Motsko.

The Sioux had a 53-19 edge in shots on goal.

UND led 3-2 after one period on goals by Margot Miller, Alyssa Breu and Dagenais.

The Sioux then broke it open with goals by Motsko and Casie Hanson in the second period.

Motsko and Jaques scored in the third period.

Amy Stech, Vanessa Vani and Jenna Ouellette scored for the Black Bears.

Sioux goalie Stephanie Ney stopped 16 of 19 shots. Maine goalie Genevieve Turgeon, who made 46 stops in Friday's 3-2 win over the Sioux, finished with 46 stops.
