UND graduate student Kyle Thorson said today he is seeking the Democratic-NPL Party’s endorsement to run for the North Dakota House in District 43.

House members in the district, which represents mostly the south end of Grand Forks, are Republican Curt Kreun and Democrat Lois Delmore.

Thorson is currently pursuing his master’s in public administration at the university. He touted his experience designing and implementing UND’s Financial Wellness program, his service on various university committees and his volunteer efforts helping victims of the drug war in Mexico.

Thorson said in a statement that lawmakers should be making investments in affordable housing and education instead of spending “hundreds of thousands of dollars defending questionable decisions by some in Bismarck.”

He said he looked forward to working with Delmore and “JoNell Bakke in the Senate.” Bakke, a former state senator, has not announced her candidacy to the Herald. If she ran, she would go up against her former rival, Republican Lonnie Laffen.
