The face of UND online is slowly changing.

The university has been putting information online in an interactive dashboard tool, and while it's not completely filled out, spokesman Peter Johnson said data will continuously be added over time.

A dummied blog site that looks like it would provide a broken down version of the school's annual financial report is also up through the school's blogs.und.edu website. Johnson said that was the result of an idea a Finance and Operations employee created off the cuff and it's by no means permanent.

"I think it's a good idea though," Johnson said. "Otherwise, to get info, you've got to go to the annual report, which is static."

Johnson said transparency initiatives have been ongoing and aren't the result of recent tension at some university meetings where employees have called for more openness.

"We're always trying to find ways to be transparent, but it has nothing to do particularly with the last few months," he said.

UND's website is also being revamped, though Johnson declined to provide a timeline and said to "stay tuned."

"Most organizations go through a constant revolution related to their websites," he said.

UND has one online dashboard that is public, accessible at bit.ly/1RrDWYW. It details student enrollment maps and numbers with other categories, such as courses, degrees, faculty and staff labeled "coming soon."
This is similar to the interactive online dashboard launched by the North Dakota University System in December 2014 containing similar system-wide information for the state's 11 public higher education institutions.

Another dashboard available to faculty requires a login and a password. In an accompanying guide for usage available online, it shows faculty have easy access to things such as enrollment data by study.

Johnson said prior to the dashboard, a lot of information had to be printed out so they began looking at ways to be more efficient and green.

"We used to have to wait for reports to come out on enrollment or on just about anything and now you can go and find that info and it's updated pretty regularly," he said.
