The North Dakota Centers of Excellence Commission awarded almost $600,000 in research dollars to UND at a meeting Tuesday.
The Energy and Environmental Research Center received $300,000 to look at using unmanned aerial systems to inspect high-voltage power lines in partnership with Minnkota Power Cooperative Inc. and Border States Industries Inc.
The UND Chemistry and Electrical Engineering departments received $100,000 each to study detection and imaging in biomedical samples and a modified aviation headset, respectively.
The College of Engineering and Mines Institute for Energy Studies also received $99,987 to develop applying their patented process of using activated carbon production in steam heating plants at North Dakota University System campuses.
NDSU also received $140,000 in research grants.
