UND Police are investigating a report that someone lit fireworks in Merrifield Hall shortly after 1 p.m. Monday.
According to Lt. Tracy Meidinger, police do not have any information on a possible suspect.
"We did recover some small pieces of firecracker in the hallway," Meidinger said. "We are fairly certain it wasn't related to any weapon. It was fireworks."
Although many in the building immediately recognized the noise as fireworks, Meidinger said there were at least one faculty member and a number of students who were initially concerned that it was something else.
Merrifield Hall houses offices and classrooms for UND's language and history departments.
