UND is creating a new Diversity Advisory Council that reports directly to the president, President Robert Kelley said Friday.

Until now, the advisory group has been a subcommittee of the Council on Campus Climate. That subcommittee called for an increase in profile that led to the creation of the new council.

Kelley asked the council to spend the rest of this year getting acquainted with diversity policies and organizing itself. He said Steve Light, associate provost for undergraduate education and a member of the subcommittee, would chair the Diversity Advisory Council.

There would be 15 members on the council, three nominated by student body president, three by the University Senate president, three by the Staff Senate president, three nominated by the vice president for student affairs and three nominated by the vice president for academic affairs.
