UND will hold a celebration of Dr. Robert Boyd's 32-year career at the university on Friday as he retires from his current role as vice president for student affairs.

Boyd will continue to serve full-time as UND's Fighting Sioux nickname and logo transition officer after the retirement.

The celebration will be held 2 to 4 p.m. in the Memorial Union Ballroom, with a program at 2:30 p.m.

Boyd started his career at UND as the director of extension and professional services before becoming dean of outreach programs. Since 1998, he has served as the vice president for student and outreach services, a position now known as vice president for student affairs.

Boyd has often been the "go-to" leader for UND's presidents, and was asked by then-President Ken Baker to run the virtual university setup after the 1997 flood. Boyd then served as chairman of the Exigency Task Force on Enrollment to help UND get back to its pre-flood enrollment.

He also was asked by four UND presidents to lead the recruitment of high-level positions to campus, served as chairman of UND's 125th anniversary celebration and led the task group that guided the university in its move to Division I athletics.

Boyd has been active in the Grand Forks community as well, earning the Grand Forks Chamber of Commerce's Henry Havig Award in 2008 and volunteering on several committees and boards for local organizations.
