UND astronaut featured on Popular Science

Popular Science is highlighting photos taken by astronaut and UND alumna Karen Nyberg, who is still orbiting the Earth in the International Space Station.

Nyberg with water sans gravity
Nyberg calls this "one of the coolest games in space." In a weightless environment, water behaves quite differently than here on land. Thanks to the effects of surface tension, it tends to form eerily beautiful spheres. Here Nyberg plays with water sans gravity, and refraction, all in one fantastic picture.

The photos in the online gallery, "The 9 coolest space photos from astronaut Karen Nyberg," were all taken from orbit.

Nyberg, originally from Vining, Minn., graduated summa cum laude from UND in 1994. She went on to join NASA and take part in a 2008 mission on the space shuttle Discovery. She has been on her current mission to the ISS since May 28 and is expected to stay until November.
