Two taken to Altru in one-vehicle accident

A man involved in a one-vehicle crash at about 6:18 Wednesday morning on Mill Road in Grand Forks was extracted from the vehicle and transported to Altru Hospital, according to Grand Forks police.

A man involved in a one-vehicle crash at about 6:18 Wednesday morning on Mill Road in Grand Forks was extracted from the vehicle and transported to Altru Hospital, according to Grand Forks police.

Aurelio Arroyo, 21, of Crookston, was driving a Dodge Neon when he left the west side of the road at the 2100 block of Mill Road and struck a metal pole causing significant damage to the vehicle.

Arroyo was extracted from the car by the Grand Forks Fire Department and Altru paramedics. He was transported to the emergency room and placed in the critical care unit at Altru Hospital.

The passenger, Gilbert Vargas, 22, of Crookston, also was transported to Altru by ambulance and was treated and released.

The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota State Patrol and the Grand Forks Police Department.

During the investigation, Vargas was arrested on a Cass County warrant for allegedly issuing checks without funds.
