Two new candidates have joined the East Grand Forks City Council race.
In Ward 1, Marc DeMers has filed to run against incumbent Clarence Vetter. DeMers was one of the petitioners urging the city in April to pave 11th Avenue Southeast, a street at the edge of the city that the city would pave only halfway because the other half wasn't inside city limits.
In the at-large race, Karl Lindquist, former city attorney and writer for the Exponent newspaper, has filed to challenge community activist and former Chamber of Commerce chairman Mike Pokrzywinski. Both are running for the seat council member Steve Gander holds. Gander will not seek re-election. In Wards 3 and 5, incumbents Craig Buckalew and Wayne Gregoire remain unchallenged. Mayor Lynn Stauss also is unchallenged.
