Two from Grand Rapids sentenced for roles in church burglaries

GRAND RAPIDS, Minn. -- A man and woman from Grand Rapids were sentenced Monday for their roles in a string of Itasca County church burglaries in 2013.

Danny Edward Madsen, 42, pleaded guilty to nine counts of felony burglary for the burglaries, which took place from June through September.

Madsen had a nearly five-year prison sentence stayed and will serve one year in jail. He will be on 10 years of supervised probation and must pay a $1,485 fine and complete 20 hours of community service.

A restitution hearing will be held June 30.

Erin Autio, 28, also will have a five-year prison sentenced stayed in favor of five years of supervised probation, and one year in jail. She also will not be allowed to use drugs or alcohol, or appear in bars or liquor stores, and she must submit to random drug and alcohol testing. She also must obtain her GED or high school equivalency degree within one year.

Autio admitted to assisting Madsen in the burglaries of nine churches in Grand Rapids, Deer River, Cohasset, Bovey and Pengilly, along with a cabin near Effie.

The sentences were handed down in district court in Grand Rapids.
