OTTAWA -- Two people were killed when a small plane crashed in southwest Ottawa Wednesday evening.
The four-seat Cessna 177 broke into pieces as it went down in a field in the suburb of Barrhaven.
"When the aircraft was found, it was found that both people were fatally injured," said Transportation Safety Board spokesman Chris Krepski.
Two investigators from the board were on their way to the scene to begin trying to figure out what caused the plane to crash.
The Ottawa airport told the city's fire service the incoming plane had gone off the radar around 7:15 p.m. and had possibly crashed.

Fire services and police began a search along the plane's landing path and came across a wing about 45 minutes later.
The rest of the plane was found soon after with its two occupants on board.
The crash reportedly caused a number of homes in the area to lose power. Hydro crews were working to fix the problem.
