Multiple North Dakota communities are set for a boost from the federal government, following Monday's announcement that they've been designated part of a "Promise Zone" community by the Obama administration.
Announced by members of North Dakota's federal delegation, the areas affected include the Turtle Mountain and Spirit Lake reservations, among other communities.
Administered principally through the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians, the area will receive help with a variety of different challenges in their community, potentially leading to a healthier local economy, more jobs, lower crime and other benefits.
According to the Department of Housing and Urban Development, benefits include working with a federal liaison who can help connect recipients with the right federal programs and easier access to grants. The designation lasts for at least 10 years.
