A Grand Forks woman was injured Saturday afternoon when her car was hit from behind by a large truck.

Grand Forks police said Shirley Melo, 54, was westbound about 1:10 p.m. Saturday in the right lane in the 2000 block of Gateway Drive when a Volvo truck driven by Ernie Maendel, 48, Fordville, N.D., moved suddenly from the left lane into the right lane.

The truck hit the 2000 black Chevy Malibu that Melo was driving, pushing it off the road into a light pole.

Melo was taken to Altru Hospital for treatment of what police said were non-life-threatening injuries. An Altru nursing supervisor said there was no record of Melo being admitted; apparently, her injuries were quickly treated.

Maendel was cited for an improper lane change.
