SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Interstate 29 had been closed between Watertown and the North Dakota border because of blowing snow that has reduced visibility. It reopened at 9 a.m.

The National Weather Service says conditions are expected to improve as the day goes on.

Travel also is difficult in southeast North Dakota. The state Transportation Department has posted a travel alert from Jamestown to Fargo and south, including Interstate 94 and Interstate 29.

The travel alert area includes the cities of Jamestown, Valley City, West Fargo, Fargo, LaMoure, Lisbon, Wahpeton and the surrounding areas due to blowing and drifting snow reducing visibility.

Travel alerts are issued to alert motorists that areas of challenging winter weather driving conditions may be encountered. Conditions are such that motorists can still travel; however, they should be aware that rapidly changing conditions may result in travel delays due to reduced speeds and visibility.
